Driving Risk Assessment Report issued

The Minibus Driver Training Course is designed to provide drivers with the essential knowledge and practical skills required to safely and confidently operate a minibus.

This course helps reduce the risks associated with driving larger passenger vehicles and ensures compliance with the legal and safety standards required of professional drivers.

It is ideal for:

  • New or inexperienced minibus drivers
  • Part of new-starter induction programmes
  • Organisations responsible for passenger transport safety
  • Refresher training for drivers requiring re-evaluation or development

Course benefits:

This course provides a structured, practical approach to driving a minibus safely and confidently, focusing on both legal knowledge and driving competence.

You will learn to:

  • Understand the legal requirements for driving a minibus, including licence categories and restrictions
  • Recognise key differences between driving a minibus and a standard car
  • Understand vehicle safety equipment – including fire extinguishers, glass hammers, first aid kits and emergency exits
  • Perform roadworthiness checks and ensure the vehicle is safe for operation
  • Improve manoeuvring, speed control and hazard awareness
  • Understand passenger safety responsibilities, including seatbelt laws and mobile phone restrictions
  • Receive personalised feedback and coaching to improve driving habits

Course Structure:

This is a bespoke, on-road driver training course delivered in a suitable minibus provided by the candidate.

  • Duration: Approximately 3 hours
  • Delivered by a DVSA Fleet Approved Driver Trainer
  • Delivered 1:1 or 2:1 depending on vehicle type and operational needs

As well as assessing driving ability, the course focuses on legal requirements, passenger safety, and operational best practices for minibus operation.

At the end of the course, you’ll receive a Driving Risk Assessment Report with feedback and a graded outcome:

  • Low Risk: No further action required
  • Medium Risk: Recommendations for improvement provided
  • High Risk: Further training recommended

Candidates must provide their own minibus, which must be:

  • Roadworthy, taxed and insured for training purposes
  • Clean, safe and legally compliant
  • Suitable for carrying out on-road training and manoeuvring exercises

Your trainer will perform a brief vehicle inspection before the session begins.
