Taxi Driver Proficiency (Virtual)

The Taxi Driver Proficiency Course has been developed to improve the knowledge, skills, and professional standards of licensed and prospective Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Drivers. The programme focuses on reducing collision risk, enhancing passenger safety, improving customer service standards, promoting disability awareness, and ensuring compliance with professional driver responsibilities.

• Examine the consequences of poor driving behaviour and decision making.
• Develop practical strategies for safer driving.
• Improve understanding of professional responsibilities within the taxi and private hire industry.
• Promote excellent customer service and passenger care.
• Increase awareness of disability, equality, and assistance dog legislation

Learning Outcomes

• Identify the primary causes of road traffic collisions and near-miss incidents.
• Understand factors affecting driver performance including speed, distraction, impairment and fatigue.
• Apply defensive driving techniques using the COAST model.
  
• Demonstrate knowledge of key Highway Code principles and current road safety legislation.
• Recognise the risks associated with mobile phone use and driver distraction.
• Understand responsibilities towards cyclists, horse riders and vulnerable road users.
• Identify the signs and effects of driver fatigue and appropriate corrective actions.
• Provide professional customer service to all passengers.
• Understand legal obligations relating to disability awareness and assistance dogs.
• Deliver a safe, professional and inclusive transport service.

This 3-hour live virtual course, delivered via Zoom, provides essential knowledge and practical guidance to meet the expectations of licensing authorities and passengers alike.

All delegates are required to show photographic ID at registration, such as Driving Licenses or Taxi Badge (if applicable).

The course is CPD Certified, and successful participants receive an eCertificate recognised by licensing authorities across the UK.
